BAKER ARTIST AWARDS The fresh and fun exhibition featuring the finalists for the 2009 Sondheim Award opened last weekend at the Baltimore Museum of Art, and it's very much worth checking out, but only a few days remain to see the 10 artists featured as part of the inaugural Baker Artist Awards. This exhibition--featuring John Ruppert, Hadieh Shafie, Becky Alprin, Milana Braslavsky, Sarah House, Adam Hopkins, Rob Levit, former City Paper staffer Jim Lucio, and Vincent Thomas--ends June 28, although you can still catch award-winner Carl Grubbs July 25 when he performs as part of the Jazz in the Sculpture Garden concert series.

THINKING BIG The Creative Alliance at the Patterson's annual Big Show is when the East Baltimore community-arts hub opens its gallery walls to its members to hang whatever they'd like. It typically produces an inconsistently overwhelming selection of works--nearly 200 of them, across all media and sizes and ideas--but as an exercise in community celebration, it's hard to beat. The show opens June 26 from 7-10 p.m. with a reception featuring the Dixieland-inspired big band jazz of Sac au Lait. The show runs through July 25.

OPENING MFA in Studio Art Thesis Exhibition opens June 29 in the Maryland Institute College of Art's Fox Building Galleries. The art of Yoshi Fujii, the Lormina Salter Fellow for 2008-09, opens June 27 at Baltimore Clayworks. Nancy Conner's oil works opens June 30 at the Art Gallery of Fells Point. 70 Years of GM in Baltimore, 1935-2005 opens June 27 at the Baltimore Museum of Industry.

Six Photographers: Kashmir Through the Lens ends June 27 at the Creative Alliance. The group show Figuratively ends at Daniel Fountain Contemporary June 27. Modulations, Daniel Conrad and John Berndt's two-man exhibit, ends June 28 at the LOF/T with a closing performance at 8 p.m. James Cunningham's Children in the Image of My Mother in the Eye of My Father ends June 30 at the Eubie Blake Jazz Institute and Cultural Center.
