Bones

Chorus

By Peter Chapman | Posted 10/24/2001

i've done so much
in so many places
and always thought
making a smile from scratch
is what counts

so

when your face tightens
into a sort of rebuke
when i say i'd like to stay
another night

i wonder

if your husband, my old friend,
who's already said sure, just
turn off the water
and close the door
can tell comedy from tragedy
and doesn't feel custodial
sweeping out the masks
