Bones

In a Single Bound

First he crouches,

feels the tensile steel

coiling in his thighs and calves.

Then he springs,

clears the skyscraper with plenty to     spare

The night air is cool.

The city below is a bright gem with     many facets.

And then he lands on the other side,

whoosh and thump,

precisely.

Pedestrians gasp and applaud.

But now already he's looking away     and up,

thinking about the next tall building

and the one after that,

and about all the leaping ahead,

feeling obligated because of his gift     for leaping

to continue for as long as he is able
