Best Japanese Restaurant
Sushi Hana
6 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Towson, (410) 823-0372
There's a lot of good Japanese food in the Baltimore area, so picking the best is pretty difficult. But when we get a hankering for fresh sushi, light-as-air tempura, and sizzling teriyaki presented with incredibly efficient service, we head to Sushi Hana in Towson. At Sushi Hana, hot towels are immediately followed by soup and salad; before you rest your spoon in the miso bowl, your appetizers appear. The type-A service is a bit surprising considering the relaxed setting, with its spacious, light-colored dining area and peaceful touches (a koi pond, Japanese prints). And then there's the food: The tempura is so light, you'll be surprised it's even related to the greasy varieties you get elsewhere; the seafood teriyaki contains ample helpings of salmon, shrimp, scallops, and lobster tail and is brought to your table still sizzling; the sushi is fresh and generously sized. Even staples like miso soup and salad with ginger dressing have additional pizazz. Finish it all off with a serving of delicious tempura ice cream (is it just us, or does it taste like funnel cake?) and you'll be a Sushi Hana convert too.
