Best Place to Play Tennis

Druid Hill Park

3001 East Drive, (410) 396-7019

Posted 9/21/2005

With the Williamsí sisters bringing their funky brand of style to the sometimes stuffy sport of tennis, itís natural to want to bring it to a court near you. Take the bustling environment amid the Druid Hill Park tennis complex, for example. Youíre practically soaking in culture as you sweat: The courts themselves are the site of the first public protest of segregated courts in 1948, commemorated by a landscape memorial, on which Baltimore artist Joyce Scott kicked in a little creative help. As a player, you can count on an available place to play at any of the 16 upper or lower courts. Catch international professional action when the Annual USTA Womenís Satellite Tournament stops by. Just around the corner lie the Conservatory, Safety City, and the Maryland Zoo, from which you can sometimes hear and smell some large animals as you ace your opponent.
