BEST ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT: Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant
We love Ethiopian restaurants and hope we never again find Baltimore without at least one. This past year, we’ve been fortunate enough to have two open up: Dukem in Mount Vernon and Sunlight Restaurant in Fells Point. They’re both very good and they both get props and thanks for saving us a drive to Washington when we want some tibs or a sambusa. But this year’s award goes to Dukem, a sister restaurant to the one in the nation’s capital, which opened in the space formerly occupied by the much-missed Ghion Café. The food is spicy, the restaurant is clean and smells of curry, and the service is exceptional—they’ll bring you more injera without the asking. And unlike their competition, there is plenty of parking just outside the restaurant.
