Celie’s Waterfront Inn

1714 Thames St., (410) 522-2323, www.celieswaterfront.com

Posted 9/21/2005

Fells Point is always full of surprises. Take, for example, the crazy costumed revelers that can be found parading the streets on Halloween, or sometimes even on an average day. And then there are the bums who carry signs that say things like smile if you masturbate. Celie’s Waterfront Inn is another surprise, albeit a less in-your-face one. The inn is a mixture of past and present with rooms that look Victorian but are made modern thanks to such amenities as internet, satellite TV, and fancy bathtubs. Each room surrounds the inn’s center garden, which is appreciated most by smokers, because it’s the only place in the inn that you can smoke without being charged a $250 fine. Celie’s is not just a great place to put up the parents when they come to town, it’s also a high-class way to escape for a quiet weekend away from the insanity of city life. Or of Fells Point.
