Best Hamburger

Swallow at the Hollow

5921 York Road, (410) 532-7542

Posted 9/21/2005

Size matters—everybody knows it—especially when it comes to burgers. Too much is a sloppy mess with meat oozing out of the warm bun. And too little, well, nobody likes being unsatisfied after it’s through. Swallow at the Hollow finds the happy medium, making a hamburger thick enough to fill a kaiser roll without destroying it, but not so hefty that you can’t get your mouth around it. It comes with sides of fries and coleslaw, dressed with a cool leaf of iceberg and a chunky slice of tomato, and is available in four different varieties—we like the spicy Southwest, with melted cheddar cheese and jalapeños—all for a mere $5.95. Not too bad. But if you drop by on Wednesday or Sunday, that price is sliced in half. And, you know, finding the right amount of burger to meet your needs is hard enough, but finding it for half- price? That’s practically a beef miracle.
