No surprise here. Even though specialty record shops have been bubbling up all over town—a trend for which we thank the vinyl gods—Normals is still the place to thumb through the history of recorded wax. They’re still the best for classic jazz, unequaled in international music (used and new), and peerless in experimental stuff. Pop gets picked over rather quickly, but if you have a knack for timing, you can find great sides from the last couple of decades as they come out of the boxes. It would require you to get on a first-name basis with the crew here, but we couldn’t introduce you to a more intriguing and informed retail staff.
