Fortunato Brothers
6374 York Road, (410) 377-7300
On a recent episode of Entourage, Vince bitched about the dearth of good pizza outside of New York. Seems he and the boys haven’t been to Baltimore lately. Fortunato Brothers may be nestled in York Road Plaza, a strip mall just south of Towson, but don’t be fooled. With a plethora of Neapolitan-style pies splayed across the counter—showcasing basics and more adventurous offerings—this pizzeria could hold its own against Nick’s, St. Mark’s, or any other New York institution. What distinguishes the Fortunato Brothers pie from so many local also-rans? The oven-baked fresh dough crust strikes that elusive balance between chewiness and crunchiness, their pies are drizzled with—not swimming in—tangy sauce and covered with generous fresh toppings and a melted blanket of rich mozzarella. Fortunato also whips up stuffed pies (double the crust and filled with pepperoni, sausage, ham, mozzarella, and sauce), as well as thick Sicilian-style squares. Add to this an impressive menu that includes homemade pasta dinners, overstuffed subs, salads, and their signature dish, fresh tomato bread, and it is evident that Fortunato Brothers is ready to serve E, Turtle, or Drama any time they get a craving.
