It’s not common knowledge that the man who provides the daily soundtrack for 92Q’s Big Phat Morning Show is a very skilled hip-hop DJ with roots in the local scene. Spontaneous is no rookie to the game. He started at Paradox, flexing his skills on the wheels long before winning a 92Q DJ competition. Though he has been surrounded by club music for years, Spontaneous remains true to hip-hop, specializing in old-school and underground sounds. And his hip-hop knowledge is as tight as his turntable skills, extensive enough to stump listeners that call in to play “Are You Hip-Hop?,” a radio game where callers have to name a recent hip-hop hit and the original song that it samples.
