Lots of places serve food 24-7, but there aren’t many places where you can enjoy a full-on culinary experience in the narrow hours between last call and sunrise. You can at Nam Kang, late-night beacon of Baltimore’s Lower Charles Village Koreatown. Of course, the robust, peppery flavors of Korean food aren’t everyone’s idea of belly-fill after a night of drinking or before a heavy snooze, and Nam Kang’s Pepto-pink basement walls and florescent lighting are low on after-hours ambiance. Regardless, stopping by Nam Kang late (it’s open until 4 a.m.) is a bit like arriving home hungry and tired and finding your mom still awake, ready to cook you a hearty meal with all the trimmings before you turn in. The staff is friendly, the food is bountiful, complex, and never rote, and the late-night bustle is lively without being wearing. After all, if you’re at Nam Kang, you’re there to get fed, but good.
