BEST WINE BAR: Grand Cru
Belvedere Square, 527 E. Belvedere Ave., (410) 464-1944, www.grandcrubaltimore.com
Whatever you do, do not treat Grand Cru as your go-to spot to pick up a bottle or two of wine when needed. Though what this winery stocks is a perfectly acceptable range of fashionable grapes, due to the posh Belvedere Square location its prices are a little more inordinate than other shops around town. Do, however, pop in every time you’re at the Belvedere Square—or even when you’re just passing by—to try something out sans full-bottle commitment. The casual but chic wine bar offers an impressive by-the-glass array of what it carries in the store, and a rotating small-plate menu of foodie items culled from the neighboring Belvedere Market (heavenly cheeses, luscious smoked fish). Grand Cru offers beer, too, but you can have a Chimay at any number of places—why not try a glass of that Syrah you’ve always eyed on the shelf but never given a go? Bonus round: It’s open on Sundays.
