Best Gay Bar

BEST GAY BAR: Grand Central

Baltimore has a number of gay bars, but when you’re trying to pick the best one, it’s usually going to come down to the Hippo and Grand Central. We love them both. Each has a wide variety of things to entertain us—performances, games, karaoke, great DJs, and friendly atmospheres. But lately we’ve found ourselves heading to Grand Central more than the Hippo. They really have the something-for-everyone thing down. There’s the upstairs leather bar with gay porn on TV, and there’s the more respectable front bar where you can have a relaxed drink and play some pool. But our personal favorite is the dance club in the back. While more sophisticated queens are having their drinks in the front, the twinks in the back are partying hard. Sure, the lube-wrestling and wet-underwear contests Grand Central has been hosting lately suggest delusions of Babylon, but that’s the fun of it. It’s harmless, slightly raunchy silliness that always leaves us smiling. And if you want to get in on the fun without getting wet or greased up, check out Buzzer, a weekly Family Feud-style game show. Just remember that no matter what the question is, “lube” is always one of the top 10 answers on the board.
