Best Late-Night Dining
Nam Kang
2126 Maryland Ave., (410) 685-6237
Baltimore has its share of spots for sobering up after the bars have closed, although it could always use more. There are those places that attract the kind of hepped-up clientele that seems determined to keep their party on, and more power to them. But for those of us who simply want to sit quietly, sober up, and rue the evening's misadventures, there's no place better than Nam Kang. It's subterranean and subdued, and sustenance arrives rapidly in the form of panchans, those complimentary bowls of appetizers. We start to really revive when we get our spoon into one of Nam Kang's steaming seafood hot pots, which effectively transfuse vital nutrients back into our system. And we're pretty certain that shrimp and scallion pancakes were invented to specifically absorb the orange-flavored vodka that we're so fond of swilling. The service is fleet and unobtrusive, and by the time we climb the stairs back to the street we're feeling like our old selves again.
