Best Gay Bar
Park Avenue Sports Bar
412 Park Ave., (410) 244-0977
It's small, cramped, a little broke-down, and hot as hell, even when it's 10 below zero. But, hey, the party is always jumpin' off at the Park Avenue Sports Bar, an African-American-owned and -operated established in Mount Vernon. A $5 cover charge not only gets you in, but also gets you a free drink, with premium liquors being a mere $2 extra. At the Sports Bar, not only are the cups huge but they're also probably the strongest drinks in town. Too many of the potent Long Island iced teas, which only include Coke for color, will knock you on your ass, so watch out. Inside you can shake it to the latest in hip-hop, R&B, and house music. Weeknights include karaoke. It's fun, cheap, friendly, and open every day from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Have fun.
