Best Bed and Breakfast

The Wilderness

2 Thistle Road, Catonsville, (410) 744-0590, www.thewilderness.biz

The B&Bs in historic neighborhoods around town are fine for putting up visiting relatives or taking care of some wedding overflow. But when we ourselves are looking for a way to get away for the weekend, but don't have time to go very far, we still feel the need to leave city limits. And that's where Catonsville's the Wilderness comes in--throw in dinner at Tersiguel's in Ellicott City and have yourself a romantic weekend for the ages. Find this 1899 house by ambling down a winding street off of Frederick Road toward the Patapsco River. When you come upon it, you'll find it hard to believe you're within spitting distance of the Beltway. A wrap-around veranda, acres of gardens, all surrounded by, well, wilderness. And inside is even better: beaucoup antiques, a delicious breakfast, and best of all, the most comfortable beds in the world.
