The unexpectedness of it matters, the incongruity of such a blissful space behind what ranks as one of the city's most unprepossessing stereoscopes. There is instantaneous mood-elevation at Arcos, back among the candlelit brick paths and noble arches, where it always feels 10 degrees cooler than the street outside. Mariachi music intensifies the carefree atmosphere, and the plausibly authentic Mexican food cinches owner Nicolas Ramos' anodyne urban dreamscape. The tension-free attitude it creates helps obliterate half-formed observations about the poky service (Arcos seems always a server short) and the increasingly soupy margaritas.
