Best Place to Get a Sandwich

Café Mocha

857 N. Howard St., (410) 669-7303

Posted 9/20/2006

The "Sandwich King" we call him. Kader Camara opened Café Mocha on Howard Street's Antique Row four years ago, and he has survived other restaurant openings and closings on the same block. In fact, as of press time, his little shop across from Maryland General Hospital is empty, and a bigger space next door is being rehabbed to accommodate the sandwich and coffee shop's increasing popularity. Sure, the soups, salads and desserts are great, and many have built empires on that strength, but you gotta credit those sandwiches. Fresh chicken salad with mustard seed, celery, and spices. Turkey, bacon, and Swiss. Marinated vegetables. Turkey and Gruyère. All stuffed into hard rolls or grilled panini. You might have to wait a little--until the new restaurant opens Sept. 28, and any day when the lunch crowd fills the seats--but the "King" is the king for good reason.
