Best Crab Cake

Buddy's Elliott Street Bar and Grille

3123 Elliott St., (410) 522-0222

Posted 9/20/2006

The discovery of a new crab cake confers more happiness on humanity than a new star, said Brillat-Savarin. Sort of. For us, a chief consideration is that the place we're getting the crab cake from not be some unholy family seafood restaurant torture chamber. Buddy's is the neighborly little side-street pub, the image of which is burnished onto your dominant temporal lobe. The menu is ambitious and the food generally well wrought. Buddy's crab cake--big, golden, silky, lumpy, luscious, held together with wizardry, salted just enough to coax out sweet crab flavors--will likely occupy a similar niche in your consciousness. It will flash in your mind whenever you think crab cake, or crab, cake, or for that matter pencil case. Buddy's has its cakes available on sandwiches, as part of a two-cake entrée, and--our favorite way--as a single-cake entrée with garlicky mashed potatoes and fresh steamed vegetables. Humanity is happy.
