Café Zen's fare isn't substantially better than the average Chinese restaurant's (though it definitely is better) and its décor, though pleasant enough, isn't worth going out of the way for. So why does this Govans institution win Best Of awards year after year from multiple publications? Probably because it feels a lot like home. After tasting Café Zen's more-than-good-enough grub you, too, will be bringing your family, your softball team, your honey, and crowding into Zen's pleasantly bustling dining room to add to the din. And after only a few visits you, too, will feel like a regular, getting greeted like an old friend at the door and being waved to a favored seat. Just don't steal our booth.
