Best Greek Restaurant

Samos

600 S. Oldham St., (410) 675-5292

It's pretty hard to argue with reasonable prices for large-portioned plates of freshly prepared savory Greek food, and we won't even try. Instead, we'll dive mouth-first into the five-dip sampler and gorge ourselves silly on warm, crusty bread, smeared with hummus, tapenade, and especially the salty-pink pleasures of the taramasalata, bursting with fish roe. Then off to maybe a simple meal-making pita sandwich, the Greek combination platter, or our absolute favorite, the wine-braised roasted leg of lamb. Samos feels like a carry-out joint that expanded when it got too popular, and the absence of overhead is presumably what helps keep prices so low. Three things to remember, though: 1) There's almost always a line for tables; 2) they only take cash; and 3) bring your own hooch.
