Best Irish Pub

Maggie Moore's

21 N. Eutaw St., (410) 837-2100, www.maggiemoores.com

Irish pubs tend to come in two flavors: the kind that attracts frat boys looking to tie one on, and the kind that attracts people who really enjoy the clean, well-lighted atmosphere of a well-run public house. Our bias is with the latter, which is why Maggie Moore's is our pick this year. The atmosphere is warm, the bartenders friendly, the crowd laid-back. The rich wood paneling, 20-foot-high ceilings, tall windows, and shining mahogany-colored bar and tables make the place feel dignified and historic; the cordial service makes it feel homey. Order a heaping serving of Irish nachos (sliced potatoes take the place of tortilla chips in this dish), a Maggie Moore's ale, and pull up a seat at the bar. Once you settle in, you'll probably want to stay a while.
