Best Tourist-Friendly Bar

McCormick and Schmick's

Pier 5 Hotel, 711 Eastern Ave., (410) 234-1300, www.mccormickandschmicks.com

Posted 9/20/2006

If you've got guests in town of the less-than-adventurous variety, or you are flagged down by a mob of fanny-packed and be-visored people demanding to know a good place to eat and have a drink, McCormick and Schmick's is generally a safe bet. Its happy hour menu boasts such safe items as a half-pound cheeseburger, quesadillas, and buffalo wings for a dirt-cheap price of $1.95 each, and its bartenders pride themselves on their "traditional mixology," meaning every drink is made from scratch. So yes, you may have to listen to Uncle Larry and Aunt Flo extol the virtues of the entertaining Baltimore Duck Tour and the scenic Inner Harbor, but you can suck down some mighty fine Tom Collinses, made from freshly squeezed lemon juice, in the process. You've a good drink, they've enjoyed cheap eats and a view of the harbor, and everyone is happy.
