Best Local-Music Radio Show
Shut Up! I'm on the Radio
Fridays, 11 a.m.-noon, WLOY (1620 AM), www.wloy.org
Lots of radio stations like to claim they play local music, but Simeon Walunas is the only DJ who puts her show where her mouth is. Her 11 a.m. to noon show, Shut Up! I'm on the Radio, broadcast Fridays on Loyola College's radio station, is dedicated almost entirely to local music. In the past six weeks she's played Cache Cache, Animal Collective, Two if by Sea, the Expotentials, Ecstatic Sunshine, Ponytail, the Cult Classics, Death Ray Charles, Human Host, Temp Sound Solutions, Flowers in the Attic, the Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad, and Sand Cats. Yes, it's pretty much only of the indie-rock variety, and, yes, it's only one hour per week--that you have to listen to online--but that is still more than any other Baltimore rock station is devoting to local bands.
