BEST PLACE TO BOWL: Taylors Stoneleigh Duckpin Bowling Center

6703 York Road, Rodgers Forge, (410) 377-8115

Posted 9/19/2007

It was a sad year for duckpin bowling in Baltimore. Our perennial favorite, Seidel's Bowling Center, closed its doors in May after 78 years. Another City Paper favorite, Patterson Lanes, remains the city's duckpin survivor. But this year we'd like to extend the crown to another alley we enjoy--Taylors Stoneleigh. It's just above the city line, down a flight of stairs in an old shopping plaza on York Road. Where Seidel's languished in old-school patina and ramshackle charm, Taylors Stoneleigh is like a jaunt through the rock 'n' bowl disco years, with its club-basement ambiance and funky carpeting. Plus, it's BYOB, so you don't have to settle for a Bud Lite if you need to drown your sorrows after rolling that pathetic 52.
