At first glance, you might be forgiven for thinking H-Mart (as most people know it) is just another suburban supermarket--which would be true, if you were thinking the suburbs of Seoul or Tokyo. Inside lies aisle after aisle of eye-popping, brain-melting edible wonderment, from the familiar to the baffling. The sheer range, quality, and affordability of the produce and seafood aside, where else are you going to quench your inner lust for a half-dozen phallic-looking geoducks, large bags of freshly severed snapper heads, live eels, or some stinkily delicious durian fruit while eating a sweat-inducing Korean hotpot and watching a phalanx of saffron-robed Buddhist monks haggling over the price of mangoes?
