BEST STREET VENDOR: Tacos Jalisco
Broadway and Bank Street
Listen up: Tacos Jalisco, the silver taco truck on Broadway, is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except Wednesday, so don't be looking to get some tacos late-night, because this isn't that kind of drunk-munch street vendor. But what makes Tacos Jalisco special is how easy it makes it to grab tacos on the street. And these are the traditional two-corn tortilla variety filled with salty meat (beef, tongue, lamb, or steak), chopped white onion, and parsley with hot sauce, lime, and hot pepper on the side. The menu also includes tasty gorditas, a filling pupusa-type cornmeal cake stuffed with the likes of chicken, pork skin in red sauce, pork and potato, or nopales (cactus leaf); chicken and pork tamales; and chilled fruity Jarritos, because a regular soda just won't soothe the hot in the sauce.
