Descend the steps off Charles Street, and the slight smell of perfume and drifting taps of a tabla drum greet you. Akbar is a perennial favorite of ours thanks to its attention to detail: the subtle lighting, low-key, cozy ambiance, the rueful decorations (which often feature the passions of kissing, dancing, and music), the smart, attentive waitstaff, and, of course, the delicious meal they set on your table. A basket of papadum instead of heavy naan as appetizer. Drink suggestions. Tandoori meats, seafood, chicken, lamb, and vegetarian entrées, all freshly spiced and served tableside in miniature chafing dishes warmed by tealight candles. We've always enjoyed the meals we've been served here, and we'll always go back.
