There is but one cure to the public transportation in the wintertime blues, and it is a hot bowl of Atwater's sweet potato soup. Thick chunks of crabmeat and shrimp float with hunks of potatoes and carrots, and when the broth is finished, you have a massive slice of warm crusty bread to sweep the bowl for the few remaining bits of soupy goodness. The meats and vegetables are added to Atwater's soups to order, which means the veggies are never mushy and everything is always super fresh. There's a rotating menu, which includes such standards as chicken noodle and split pea, as well as more inventive bisques, stews, cold soups, and more. What's more, Atwater's takes great care to present local and organic ingredients--meats, breads, dairy, and produce used in the recipes are often from local farms.
