Best Soul Food Restaurant

Sista Sandra's

6212 Reisterstown Road, (410) 358-0008

Posted 9/19/2007

For a town that teeters on being Southern, Baltimore is sadly lacking in decent soul food, so thank James Brown above for Sista Sandra and her fab little Northwest Baltimore joint, where fried chicken, catfish, and ribs; mac 'n' cheese, candied yams, and greens; and chocolate-frosted yellow cake, apple pie, and (oh my) bread pudding topped with rum sauce all flow like a Booker T. keyboard line. Meals here can seem a bit pricey for a mostly takeout place, but the portions are huge enough for two-plus days. Plus the smiles on the folks behind the counter--the sweetest kids in town--will make parting with your dollars as easy as, well, sweet potato cream pie.
