Best Raw Bar

Faidley Seafood

Lexington Market, 203 N. Paca St., (410) 727-4898,

Posted 9/19/2007

Most people who talk about Faidley's sing the praises of its crab cakes--and make no mistake, the cakes served here are superior--but it's the raw bar that draws us back again and again. It's not the kind of raw bar where you're likely to make friends with your shucker, or with the folks with whom you stand shoulder to shoulder at the shiny lacquered wood bar. Rather, everyone here is all about the seafood--salty, creamy oysters, chewy mussels, and briny clams, served up by the half-dozen or dozen on Styrofoam plates, accompanied by saltine crackers, hot sauce, and horseradish. The ambiance is decidedly blue-collar and the service a bit on the curt side, but the stuff that really matters--the bivalves served on the half-shell--are first rate.
