Forest Diner
10031 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City, (410) 465-5395, www.forestdiner.com
The Double T Diner chain competes with more traditional diners, and nowhere is this more apparent than on the 10000 block of Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City. Right next door to the Double T at that location is the venerable Forest Diner, which, beneath its ramshackle exterior, houses an old-school diner car that's been there for about 60 years. Its food is classic diner fare, including favorites like liver and onions, and its ambiance--including the music--is pure, unchanging throwback. The place is a veritable time machine, and based on our recent visits there, the Double T next door is crushing its business. Lest the Forest Diner goes the way of its namesake--the erstwhile Enchanted Forest amusement park--it needs a hefty helping of patronage. On your way in and out, be sure to give the finger to the Double T.
