Baltimore Living
Best Local Theater Company
Run of the Mill
This local theatrical powerhouse has undergone a number of changes in the past year--its fourth in Baltimore. Co-founder James Knipple left for grad school, the whip-smart Jenny Tibbels filled the artistic director slot for a year but has since left for a full-time teaching position at Garrison Forest School, leaving the company in the very capable hands of David Mitchell. In that time, though, the company put on a South African play festival, workshopped and staged another of its Variations projects, and performed the first local production taking part in Suzan-Lori Parks' 365 Plays/ 365 Days project. And Mitchell isn't wasting any time, staging Federico García Lorca's Blood Wedding in October as his first project as director. And it's rare--in any city--to be able to witness such ambitions realized with such limited resources. Bravo.
