Best Place For a Quiet Drink

Upstairs Lounge, Waterfront Hotel

1710 Thames St., (410) 537-5055,

Posted 9/17/2008

Finding a quiet place for a relaxing drink in Fells Point is like an Indiana Jones mission. You know it's out there somewhere, but there are loony characters everywhere, amphibious vehicles full of quacking duck-people, and you may even have to dodge a foul pool of something on the weekends. Thankfully there's a spot right in the middle of the action that is a retreat from the frenetic energy of the bar scene. The dark wood room of Waterfront Hotel's upstairs lounge is furnished with an assortment of cozy couches and low coffee tables (complete with board games), as well as a fully stocked bar. Music is usually a mellow and hip assortment, selected from the bartender's iPod. The full menu is available until 10 p.m., when the late-night menu kicks in with gourmet quesadillas, the standout choice to match your peaceful nightcap.
