Between the death of DJ K-Swift, DJ Frie falling back from the mixtape grind, and Unruly Records dropping releases more sparingly since getting national distribution, there's suddenly fewer consistent sources for getting your hands on new Baltimore club music than there used to be. That's why we're grateful for newer suppliers like 18-year-old Pierre Wilkins for keeping that lull from becoming a drought, with mix CDs like Volume 6: Spring Semester Edition. Wilkins was a high-school student when K.W. Griff played DJ Pierre tracks on 92Q for the first time, and just two years later the fast-rising DJ/producer is holding down all the big parties at Club One and Paradox.
