An die Musik

OK, OK--this is a default. The state of jazz clubs in Baltimore is rough right now. With the New Haven Lounge fallen on rough times and the only new jazz joint to open in the past year in the 'burbs, An die Musik is competing against itself. The Windup Space seems to be making efforts at booking jazz--An die Musik's excellent Creative Differences series moved there and weekly improv jam Out of Your Head lives there--and Club 347 has a couple of jazz nights, but An die Musik still has its intimate, designed-for-jazz room and the bucks to book large, out-of-town artists, on top of hosting regular Peabody Institute offspring and recitals from soon-to-be-notable locals. It is, however, expensive as hell and doesn't have the sultry, old-school vibe we'd like to see in a joint--we don't mean in place of An die Musik, but in addition to. We think there's room in Baltimore for more than one jazz club.
