In only two shows, Chicago-transplant Jamillah James has already made an interesting impact on Baltimore's art community. Her Agenda: Queering Popular Media at the Current Gallery and Altered States, a 2009 satellite Transmodern exhibition at the Load of Fun Studios, injected a heady dose of intellectual chutzpah into the already visceral visual vocabulary and anything-goes performance stew in which Baltimore artists are so adept. James' curatorial eye outlined interesting connections between new and traditional media and local and national artists in her exhibition design, resulting in two of the most sure-footed group shows mounted in Baltimore galleries.
