Best Lesbian Bar

Sappho's

1001 N. Charles St., (410) 752-7133, centralstationpub.com/sapphos.html

Posted 9/16/2009

Google "Baltimore Lesbian Bar" and you may get thousands of results, including one listing in Washington, D.C., a story on the murder outside Coconuts, and Gallagher's, a past favorite that closed a bunch of years ago, but you'll find only a couple places that actually fit the criteria. Calling Sappho's the best lesbian bar may, then, seem an honor poorly won, but after this year's devastating fire, it has pulled out all the stops: an expanded bar area, big and cushy couches, and multi-stalled bathrooms. Favorites such as the private outdoor patio, pool tables, and second bar remain. Additionally, cover is free for ladies on Friday and Saturday nights, while the men who want to bust into the party have to pay $10 (another plus for those who want to keep the male-to-female ratio on the low end). The party's even hotter now that Sappho's also hosts S.H.E. Productions' Rehab the second Saturday of every month.
