There's something magical about escaping a hot ass day by walking in to a place crammed with old nautical stuff, sitting down at a sticky bar, and in seconds having your entire field of vision filled with mugs of cold beer, clustered in triads. From 4-7 p.m. and all day Sunday, you can get any three draft beers in 8 ounce mugs for $5. And the Wharf Rat has many from which to choose, mostly house-brewed Oliver ales, some seasonal, a few cask conditioned (that means flat), and a selection of recognizable national brews. Use this opportunity to expand your beer repertoire, using the handy pamphlet, complete with descriptions, for guidance (we're not too keen on the shameless marketing ploy of food pairings, though). Of course, we usually fail to look past the ABV for each beer, and thus end up getting a full set of 3 Lions (7.3 percent) most of the time. Don't judge.
