For the three days it's open every week (Thursday through Saturday--no Sundays, heathen), the Pennsylvania Dutch Market becomes the epicenter of home-style deliciousness in the Greater Baltimore area. This is not exactly a secret--check the gleam in certain eyes when you mention it among people who love to eat, not to mention the thronged parking lot--but we run into a lot of folks who seem to have never heard of it. Well, if you love slow cooking, from scratch, butter, salt, cream, sugar, and/or smoke, it's a must. Delicious meats of all varieties (many available in easy-to-snarf sandwich form), incredible like-grandma-used-to-make-because-someone's-grandma-did-make-it baked goods, soft pretzels like nothing you've ever eaten, sumptuous ice cream, the whole gamut of picnic-ready salads, roasted nuts, candies like you haven't seen in years, or maybe ever--it's all here. There are crafts and stuff, too, but we're usually too full to pay them much mind.
