Given that we're neither French nor ever had the pleasure of being in Paris for any real amount of time, we have no idea how one truly evaluates a French bakery? Is it by the quality of its loaves of bread? By the airy flakiness of its croissants? By the memory-prodding power of its madeleines? All we know for sure is that we've become frequent droolers atop Patisserie Poupon's dessert case. Everything here is as much a visually stunning objet d'art as a taste orgy in your mouth, from the whole torts and cakes to the rainbow offerings of individual pastries and these little chocolate purses filled with chocolate mousse and chocolate cream that are so sinfully divine we're wondering if it comes coffin-sized for our funeral. And the croissants rock, too.
