Best Lake Trout

The Roost

Frank Klein

5281 Reisterstown Road, (410) 578-1810,

The line at this establishment speaks for itself, which is why we like to go off-hours. We get an aquarium exhibit's-sized portion of lake trout, breaded and fried to perfection, the foundation of a soul-satisying meal after we dress the fish with hot sauce, salt, and pepper, and balance out the scales on the food chain (approximately) with some of the densest mac 'n' cheese we've ever encountered (again: hot sauce) and salty, juicy greens. And one more time, "lake trout" is a fish called whiting, OK? Spread the word so people stop making that lame joke about "Trout? Where's the lake?" The lake's on Reisterstown Road, get it?
