Best Lesbian Bar

Gallagher's Bar and Grill

940 S. Conkling St., (410) 327-3966.

Posted 9/18/2002

Gallagher's has been pegged as Baltimore's baby-dyke bar, but we still love it the best because it brought drag kings to Charm City, giving us some of that fabulous gender-bending oh-so-queer goodness and providing another venue for dyke expression. The lesbian community is finally coming into it's own as a multitextured community, and it's so great to see places like Gallagher's welcoming and encouraging boundary pushing. Some may dismiss Gallagher's as "just a bar," but, honey, read your history books. Stonewall was "just a bar" too. Revolutions have to start somewhere. Gallagher's also provides a fun atmosphere and attractive bartenders to sling your liquor. Seems to us there is a "food" part there, too, but we're usually busy watching the entertainment, both on and off the stage. So Gallagher's? We put on a small goatee in your honor and lift our glasses high in the air: Viva la Dyke Revolution!
