Best Fried Chicken

Declaring a winner in this category caused us much anguish for a couple of reasons: 1) The champ was obvious. 2) There is much to make us think twice about naming it the best.
After much soul-searching and beating our head into a wall, we realize we have to bite the pullet and hand the prize to Tyrone's. This inner-city chain specializes in fried chicken that's golden-brown, crisp on the outside, juicy and tender within, and mouth-wateringly delicious. And it's dirt cheap--a Tyrone's 15-piece mega-deal is only $4.71 (tax included); a five-piece chicken box, which also includes fries, a dinner roll, and a 12-ounce can of soda (Tyrone's picks the flavor), runs a frighteningly low $2.99.
But caveat emptor: You do get what you pay for. The chicken will taste great, but sometimes the drums, wings, and thighs look as if they've been pulled off hummingbirds. The wait for your order, on many occasions, is going to be a long one, sometimes as much as 30 to 45 minutes (and you're standing--not fun for injured, differently able, and tired patrons). Tyrone's staff is often dismissive, and individual employees are sometimes downright rude. That doesn't play well when one has spent a half-hour waiting, only to be told that getting something other than chicken wings will take another 20 minutes.
Only you can decide whether Tyrone's chicken is worth the inconvenience it requires. But it is the best-tasting fried chicken in town, dammit.
