Matsuri

1105 S. Charles St., (410) 752-8561

Posted 9/15/1999

Oh Matsuri, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways. We love thee to the depth and breadth and height of your noodle bowls. Our chopsticks can reach, when feeling hungry for the ends of teriyaki bites and ideal fried shyumai. We love thee to the level of every day's most quiet appetite, by sun and overhead light. We love thee freely, as people strive for satiation. We love thee purely, as your chefs turn from praise of another splendid unagi roll. We love thee with the passion put to use in satisfying our hungriest cravings, and with our childhood's love of katsu don. We love thee with a love we seemed to lose with other sushi joints; we love thee with green tea on our breath. Smiles, tears, of all our lives! And, if the editor chooses, we shall but love thee better after our next meal. (Sincerest apologies to E.B. Browning, but if she could have eaten there, she would agree: Matsuri puts pure poetry on a plate.)
