If you're just gonna slather it in ketchup or barbecue sauce, or bury it under coleslaw or some other fool concoction, go somewhere else. But if what you're looking for is beef--smoky, flavorful, mouth-watering beef--hurry down to Big Al's, where the pit-beef sandwich smacks of fine prime rib. They pile it on thick at Big Al's, and all you need are a ring of two of raw onion and a dab of horseradish sauce, the merest counterpoint to a full 2 inches of tender meaty goodness. And at Big Al's prices, you can treat the gang or order some go-withs, such as gravy fries or corn on the cob, though we doubt you'll have the room.
