Best Bread Pudding

Dougherty's Irish Pub

223 W. Chase St., (410) 752-4059

Posted 9/13/2000

Bread pudding brings to mind cold winter evenings and holidays at Grandma's. It's covered some culinary ground since the days when it was simply a way to use up a stale loaf, but bread pudding remains the most comforting of desserts, a reminder of bygone days and values. Dougherty's Pub in Mount Vernon offers an understated but rich version of this time-machine-in-a-bowl. Heated and topped with vanilla ice cream, this homemade treat is the perfect antidote to all of the nouvelle desserts you'll find at many restaurants. Although it's not the way our grandma served it, there's no reason you can't enjoy your bread pudding with a pint of Guinness.
