Star Light Diner

15 Eastern Blvd., Essex, (410) 391-1999

Posted 9/17/1997

We discovered the Star Light Diner while on a late-night search for turkey and gravy. Our craving was wonderfully satisfied by the Star Light's hot open-faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans-all for just $6.95. Next time we were in this particular 'hood, we stopped in for breakfast and found ourselves faced with a five-page breakfast menu that included all of the standards, plus a dizzying array of omelet choices. (We ordered the country style omelet, and it turned out to be the size of a Frisbee.) Subsequent visits have left us further enamored of the Essex eatery, and we're slowly working our way through the menu of tasty and traditional diner fare. The restaurant is a time-warped treat in and of itself, with booths outfitted with individual jukeboxes, framed gold records, old Life magazine covers, and printed signs that read eat here, so we both don't starve.
