With all due respect to the venerable Indian triumvirate in Mount Vernon, to find Baltimore’s best subcontinental cuisine this year we turn to the south. Federal Hill’s Banjara takes the prize not just for its delicious, fresh food—the kitchen here never lapses into the creaky coasting we occasionally find farther up Charles Street—but for the soothing peacefulness of the dining room, a quiet, dimly candle-lit space appointed with gorgeous rugs. And when we don’t feel like going out to enjoy the lovely food in this lovely setting, we can call Banjara’s adjunct Singh Express (see “Best Carry-out Indian Food”) to bring it to our somewhat less poetic digs.
